When a student is having a hard time asking for help, allowing them to submit written questions on 3x5 cards can open up the conversation.

One of the issues I've seen in my classroom is the failure to ask for help and something I've done to alleviate that problem is I've created a black box. In which students can write their worries, their fears, something that they're struggling with on a Post-It note, put it into this black box, and it lets them ask the teacher for help with out directly approaching the teacher and it also lets me know that I need to have a conversation with that student at some point.
