If a student fails to ask for help, a conversation with parents or guardians might be necessary. That way, a teacher can better understand any underlying problems that might only be surfacing at home.

I had a girl in my class this past year who had a really hard time asking for help and I did everything that I could to try and get her out of her shell, but nothing really worked. So that’s when I realized I need to move on beyond this enclosed bubble that is my classroom and myself and this girl and I had to talk to her parents because there might have been extenuating circumstances that I didn’t know about and once that conversation with her parents began we were able to begin to establish a better relationship.
