Marie Curie's Discovery Vocabulary

compound = a substance made up of the atoms of more than one element

element = a substance that cannot be broken down into other substances by heat, light, or electricity

energy = the ability to do work

mineral = a natural, nonliving solid with a definite chemical structure

physicist = someone who is an expert in physics

radiation = the process of giving off energy in the form of invisible rays such as light or heat

radioactivity = the property that certain metals have of giving off rays or tiny particles from their atomic nuclei
