Make a Sweet Spurting Spider
Question: Where do spiders go to learn new words?
Answer: Web-ster's Dictionary.
This spider may not have a great vocabulary, but it sure can spurt! This activity involves the oven, adult assistance is needed.
You'll need these materials::
- 1 box flesh (basic cake mix)
- 1 box innards (green JELL-O, prepared, set, and well whipped)
- 1 batch skin (black frosting: buy at a craft supply store or make by adding blue food coloring to chocolate frosting)
- 8 legs (black licorice sticks or whips)
- 2 or 6 eyes (large green gumdrops)
- Mix the cake batter according to the instructions on the box.
- Bake the cake in two metal bowls. One of these bowls needs to be bigger than the other.
- Once you've taken it out of the pan, cut the bigger cake in half, horizontally. This will be the spider's body.
- Carefully scoop out a hole in each half of the cake. Fill this hole with well-whipped, set green JELL-O, and reattach the halves.
- Cover the cake with the black frosting.
- Put the cake onto a big plate, and add the licorice legs and gumdrop eyes.
- When you cut into the cake, it will ooze green guts -- just like a real spider!
