Kwanzaa Flag Decoration

Materials
  • Construction paper in red, green, blue, yellow and white
  • Scissors
  • Thin ribbon or yarn
  • Glue
  • Black marker

Directions

The Flag of Gabon:

  1. Cut a rectangle from the green construction paper, measuring about 3" x 6".
  2. Cut bands from the blue and yellow paper, measuring about 2" x 6".
  3. Paste the strips horizontally across the green rectangle, starting at the bottom with the blue.
  4. Paste the yellow directly above the blue strip, so that you are left with three bands of equal size running horizontally across the flag: green on top, yellow in the center, and blue on the bottom.

The Flag of Ghana:
  1. Cut a rectangle from the green construction paper, measuring about 3" x 6".
  2. Cut bands from the red and yellow paper, measuring about 2" x 6".
  3. Paste the strips horizontally across the green rectangle, starting at the top with the red.
  4. Paste the yellow directly below, so that you are left with three bands of equal size running horizontally across the flag: red on top, yellow in the center, and green on the bottom.
  5. Use the black marker to draw a five-point star in the center of the yellow band.

The Flag of Benin:
  1. Cut a rectangle from the green construction paper, measuring about 3" x 6".
  2. Cut bands from the red and yellow paper, measuring about 1½" x 5".
  3. Glue the yellow strip to the top right of the green rectangle.
  4. Paste the red band at the bottom right of the rectangle so you are left with a green vertical band on the left, and yellow and red horizontal bands of equal size.

The Flag of Nigeria:
  1. Cut a rectangle from the green construction paper, measuring about 3" x 6".
  2. Cut a strip from the white paper, measuring 2" x 3".
  3. Paste the white strip directly in the center of the green rectangle so that it runs vertically.

Paste the ribbon or yarn behind each flag, so that they are strung together. Hang your flag decoration and enjoy! For added fun, research other flags of Africa and include them in your wall decoration!
