  • Students will become familiar with the parts of speech.
Materials
Notecards, pens
Procedure
  1. Write commonly used verbs, prepositions, and conjunctions on notecards.

  2. Have students name objects (nouns) they see around the room, or out the window.

  3. Write the objects named on notecards.

  4. Give small groups of students a variety of cards, with a mix of the different parts of speech.

  5. Have students make as many sentences as they can with the cards.

  6. Read the sentences aloud.

  7. How many sentences can each group make with the same words?
Extensions: Write sentences on large decorated poster paper. Make stories out of the class's sentences. Switch cards around to see who can make the goofiest sentences.
