How many national holidays are in 2023?
There are eleven national federal holidays in 2023 that can be celebrated and enjoyed by all! These special days amount to days off for students and many workers across the country. If the holiday falls on a weekend, usually the following “working day” or the first Monday during the week that the U.S. federal holidays are observed, resulting in the closure of federal buildings. Traditional federal holidays are celebrated, such as Christmas Day and Independence Day, as well as the birthday of Martin Luther King. However, many other holidays like Juneteenth and some other U.S. federal holidays are now observed for all to enjoy, from New York to California!
What is the next holiday?
Once Thanksgiving hits, the U.S. federal holidays are in full swing. After Christmas Day subsides, New Year’s Day is the first holiday observed in 2023. It always kicks off a new holiday schedule, also making the next holiday Martin Luther King Day, celebrated on January 16 this year. Not far behind Martin Luther King Jr. Day follows Washington’s birthday and Memorial Day. Always a day to relax, reset, and refocus, starting the year off with New Year’s Day as a major holiday is beneficial to many and most since federal employees can enjoy the day off as well.
What is the day after Thanksgiving?
The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. This is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. While it’s not considered an official ‘holiday’, many flock to the stores to get the best deals on anything and everything, ready for the next major upcoming holiday - Christmas! The Monday after Thanksgiving is deemed ‘Cyber Monday’ in the retail world and is said to boast more discounts to kick off the holiday schedule.
What is the next holiday after Labor Day?
The next federal holiday after Labor Day is Columbus Day, also known as Indigenous Peoples’ Day. This special day is to commemorate the landing of Christopher Columbus on October 12 - if the anniversary date falls mid-week, the federal holiday will be given the Monday before.
The federal government recently renamed it to address national concerns about how holidays and other things are named.
Before Labor Day is Independence Day, July 4; also, note that Juneteenth National Independence Day falls on June 19. Observances will be followed so all people of the U.S. can stop and celebrate this special day that has been added to the holiday schedule. One can also remember that Memorial Day, celebrated on the last Monday of May, will precede Juneteenth National Independence Day.
