Objectives

  • Students will learn each others names quickly.
  • Teacher will learn student names.
  • Students will have name tags ready for visitors, substitutes, and use on field trips.

Materials

Plastic ID holders

Procedures

  1. Make name tags for each student and put them inside the plastic ID holders, writing the names on them so that they are legible from a distance.

  2. Have students wear them for the first few weeks of school.

  3. After you and your students have learned everyone’s name, store the name tags for use when visitors come to the class or a substitute is in the room.
Additional Ideas: Have the students design their own name tags for their desks. Show them how they can draw lines around the outline of the letters in their name and make a rainbow design or make nametags based on the theme subject you are covering. (Example: Dr. Seuss for first grade, or Arthur, or a specific subject like bats). Students draw related pictures by their name. These can be laminated form use as desk plates. You can also string name tags with yarn and put on a suction cup hook by the door for easy pick up when needed.
Use name tags to help you learn students' names.
