Warm-Up

Procedure

  • Announce that today the group is going to make a drawing of a person's body to hang up on the wall.
  • Spread out the paper on the floor. Select a willing child who is wearing slacks or shorts. Ask the child to lie down on the paper. Ask the other children to gather around.
  • As you trace around the child's body, have children tell you what part of the body you are tracing. Examples: head, ears, neck, shoulder, arm, hand, fingers, leg, knee, foot.
  • After you complete the outline, have children repeat the names of the body parts aloud. Write the words on the outline.
  • Finish up by adding the parts of the face: eyes, eyebrows, nose, and mouth.

Enrichment
Sing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" again, encouraging children to take turns calling out different parts of the body to use in the song.

  • In Process - Child can name only a few major parts of the body.
  • Not Yet Ready - Child does not yet identify more than one part of the body.
