Get Real
10-15 minutes
Materials needed:
Old magazines (optional) or drawing paper, scissors and glue
Divide students into groups of 2-3. Give students a few old magazines and 2 sheets of paper. Students should label one paper “want” and the other paper “need.” As a group, cut and paste photos of things children want or need and glue them onto their respective papers. (Alternatively, students can draw pictures of wants and needs). Discuss with students that humans have rights to have their needs fulfilled, and it is our government’s job to protect those needs. Ask students if it was challenging to decide if something was a want or a need. Ask students what our responsibilities are as global citizens to help those in need.
