British mystery writer and playwright with more than 80 novels to her credit. Most of her books featured either Hercule Poirot, a Belgian detective, or Miss Marple, an elderly spinster with a knack for solving murders. Christie's books include The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (1926), Murder on the Orient Express (1934) and Death on the Nile (1937). She also wrote the plays Mousetrap (1952) and Witness for the Prosecution (1954).
