Make a Desk Set

Grade Levels: Pre-K - 2

Paperclip Container
Materials
  • An empty box – metal, paper, or plastic; Band-Aid boxes work well
  • Water-based acrylic or tempera paints
  • Paint brushes
  • White glue
  • Glitter, sequins, tiny buttons
  • Paper clips
Procedures
  1. Students paint their box all over, and let paint dry.
  2. Ask students to paint a second coat if needed.
  3. Students glue decorations onto the container. Then let dry.
  4. Fill boxes with paperclips.


Pen and Pencil Holder
Materials
  • An empty frozen-juice can
  • Colored construction paper
  • Waterproof marking pens
  • White glue
  • Cellophane tape
  • Glitter, sequins, tiny buttons
Procedures
  1. Students cut construction paper to cover can.
  2. Students glue construction paper smoothly onto can and tape ends inside the cylinder. Let dry.
  3. Students make designs with marking pens.
  4. One by one, glue decorations onto the container. Let dry.



Custom Tissue Box

Materials
  • a wicker or plastic cover for a box of tissues
  • white glue
  • seashells, pebbles, buttons, bits of discarded jewelry
  • small macaroni shapes dyed in food coloring
Procedures
  1. Make sure the work surface is clean and dry.
  2. Students glue decorations onto the box and then let dry.
