Flag Facts

U.S. students can be taught the etiquette surrounding the flag of their country. Some rules are as follows:

  • Flags should not be displayed in bad weather, unless it is a weatherproof flag designed for all types of weather.
  • Flags should only be flown from sunrise to sunset.
  • If the flag is flown at night, it should be properly illuminated.
  • The flag should be displayed every school day in or by the school.
  • The flag should be carried aloft, not flat.
  • The flag should not be worn as part of a costume.
  • The flag should not be used for advertising purposes.
